A lot of people think exercise has to be really hard or a challenge, and although getting your heart rate up and building muscle requires work and is beneficial to your body, getting moving doesn’t have to be like that.
We aren't meant to be sedentary, so I set a goal for the year to keep me accountable.
You can see in my January chart how my energy started to fall, and I moved a lot less. On the last day of January, I really felt better and more like myself.
It’s usually easier for us to just sit around than it is to get moving (unless you’re already an active person). This means it's up to us to commit to getting regular exercise.
It’s crunch time for me; not sure I’ll make it. It’s the first time this year I’ve been unmotivated to walk.
I encourage you to begin your own regular walking routine, especially if you can do it outdoors where you'll get even more energized from the fresh air.
I was able to share my preferred route in Assiniboine Forest on a group walk with members of the Plant-based Living Winnipeg community (find the group on Facebook). The group was founded, and is run by, the passionate and knowledgeable Michelle Tree.
By the time we finished, we were completely drenched, right down to our underwear! I'd never seen my runners so wet and muddy.
If you’re not moving your body in other ways, like swimming, cycling etc. then walking is a great go-to, which you can rely on every day. Put on some runners and step outside your door. It's that simple.
Setting a personal goal, and working towards it, gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Check out my progress on my 1200 km walking goal.
